SEND

As an inclusive school we ensure all pupils have equal access to the curriculum. We have the highest of expectations and ambitions for all our pupils and ensure all pupils make excellent progress from their starting points. Where children are recognised as having a special educational need, provision is tailored accordingly and a programme of intervention and additional support is co-ordinated in relation to pupil progress.

This is developed by the SEND Leader, who liaises with multi agencies, parents and carers as necessary. All teachers, are teachers of SEND pupils and we provide all our staff with high quality CPD to upskill which gives them the best skills and knowledge to support our pupils. The external support that teachers and subject leaders access from our specialist teacher, EP, WAMHS and SaLT clinician provide our SEN children with individualised resources to support their learning and develop strategies to become independent, resilient learners working alongside their peers.

Our dedicated team work collaboratively to put appropriate provision and challenge in place for all pupils, irrespective of their starting points, ensuring that they reach their potential and are happy in our school.

The Department for Education (DfE) published a new special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice on 30 July 2014. It came into force from 1st September 2014, replacing the previous 2001 Code. The Code of Practice (2014) covers the 0-25 age range and includes guidance relating to children and young people with a disability as well as those with special educational needs (SEN).

Local Offer

Hackney Local Authority have published a local offer which sets out information about provision they expect to be available for children and young people in their area who have SEND, including those who do not have EHC plans.
The two key purposes of the local offer are to:

1. Provide clear, comprehensive and accessible and up-to-date information about the available provision and how to access it; and
2. Make provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving children and young people with SEN or disabilities, parents and carers and service providers in its development and review.

Additional Support Materials available on SJSJ’s Padlet

Hackney has a range of services and activities to support all children, particularly those with SEND in and out of term time. Navigating the support can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to find the right service at the right time.

Please follow the link below to the St John and St James SEND Padlet which is regularly refreshed with a huge variety of services and information.

This ranges from parent groups, to advice lines to strategies you can use at home to support communication.

Please note that whilst some services are for children with SEND, there are a wide range of support networks on the Padlet available for all children and families.

If you know of any services which are not listed on the schools Padlet, please let Mr Watson know and we will update it.
